Crossing the Ragabo Pine Forest by foot evokes you intense emotions, given by this uncontaminated place, by the scent of its trees and by the spectacular and ancient lava flows that you encounter along the way.
Ideal for walking while enjoying some fresh air in summer or even in winter, when the snow covers it with a white blanket, this pine forest is a centuries-old natural formation, part of the Etna Park and located at an altitude of around 1,400 meters.
Once a hunting reserve for the noble islanders, the forest is predominantly made up of Sicilian larch pines, an important native forest species. Historically, they were cut down for use in ship masts and local construction, and until the 1960s, precious resin was also extracted from their trunks.
